Already known for its graphic excellence, FIFA fires its most powerful shot at the competition. With all-new open passing, the FIFA gamer has more control and precision than ever before. Find a breaking forward with a perfect 40-yard ball into open space, embarrass the tightest defense with cunning one-twos, or fool any keeper with deep swerving crosses. FIFA 2002 will offer more licensed leagues, teams, and competitions than any other game in the industry; combined with great new single-player features, a unique reward system, and the chance to qualify your country for 2002 FIFA World Cup?.

GAMEPLAY:

The Fifa series is probably one of the most successful series' for the PC. Each and every year millions of soccer players and spectators await its release. No game has yet to compare to Fifa's style of play. The previous game in the series "Fifa 2001" was a disappointment for most Fifa gamers, but no more! "Fifa 2002" features a new, unique, enjoyable style of play. EA has finally realized it has to start developing Fifa to be more like a real soccer match and less like a backyard Soccer fun. "Fifa 2002" features a new style of play, yet to be seen in any of EA's previous releases, neither in other PC Soccer games. The new passing system expands the enjoyment of the game and definitely makes the game more realistic. No more will you hit the "passing" button and expect the ball to arrive to the appropriate player, closest to the ball, from now on you have to think like a real Soccer player, find cracks in a strong defense and actually aim! When you press the "passing" button you will notice a power bar appearing at the bottom of the screen, it determines the amount of strength on the pass you are performing and eventually changes its style as well. Along with the new passing system, comes a new feature - 1-2. From now on you can perform 1-2 passes also known as double passes. The 1-2 passes are useful for cutting through a dense defense or moving the ball around in an intelligent way, advancing your players forward. As in "Fifa 2001", there is a shooting power bar that determines the power and height to your shot on goal. Along with the power bar, there are new physics to the shooting in "Fifa 2002". From now on hitting the target is a real challenge, unlike previous releases, where you were to hit the target 90% of the time, in "Fifa 2002" you will have to master the controls before hitting the target at such a high rate. The amount of time you hold the directional keys influences on the destination of your shot, a very welcomed feature, if you prefer simulation over arcade. The goalkeeper and defensive AI has changed as well to a much more realistic and challenging AI. From now on, scoring in World Class level is not a piece of cake. Moving on to the options aspect of the gameplay: The match can be played at a duration of 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 20 and 45 minutes per half (45 minutes in a real Soccer match) You can change the game difficulty as well to your liking - Amateur, Professional and World Class. Further options are Game Speed, Referee Strictness, Visual in-game options and various AI options. The game features 16 leagues including the English Premier League, German Bundesliga, Spanish Premier League, the French LNF, and Major League Soccer (MLS). Overall the gameplay is in one word, REALISTIC... something EA has not considered so far in their Fifa series of prestige soccer games. The gameplay is very realistic, fun to play and flows well, good job EA.

Gameplay gets 5 out of 5 stars

GRAPHICS:

Much better than Fifa 2001, the textures are pretty smooth, the stadiums look real and very dynamic, different weathers are available, spectators don't look like human boxes any longer. The game resolution goes up to 1280X1024 via the 3D Setup and several Visual Options can be set. The game features many different angles to choose from, to increase realism. Only down-fall is the faces used on players... they look pretty damn bad... you can't recognize players by looking at their faces - unless they differ in skin colour, that's not nice. Apart from that the graphics are wonderful, colorful and dynamic, exactly what you would expect from such a prestige Soccer title.

Graphics gets 4 out of 5

AUDIO:

The audio hasn't changed too much from Fifa 2001... The music used is a nice upbeat Dance/Techno music that will get you pumping before your match and during the match - in this version there is music in-game as well... maybe not the most realistic feature, but it surely does sound nice hearing some nice music after tearing the opponent's net :D Sound effect are a tad abrupt but all in all they are O.K. Crowd effects still need some work on. Overall the Audio is good, and satisfying.

Audio gets 4 out of 5

OVERALL

Fifa 2002 is without a shadow of doubt the BEST most REALISTIC soccer title up to date - bar none. Not only does it demolish other titles with it's realistic gameplay and graphics but it also beats Fifa 2001, the previous title in the series by a very large margin. If you enjoy being a spectator and/or playing Soccer, this is a definite purchase.

Overall gets 4.5 out of 5
