GAMEPLAY:
The Madden series is renowned for its realistic gameplay, and Madden 2002 is not lacking. The playbooks are filled with unique and realistic plays taken from coach’s notebooks. The gameplay is balanced, which means even on the easiest mode, you’ll be hard pressed to blow an opponent away. The AI is also improved quite a bit. You’ll notice the difference between Billy Joe Hoebert and Kurt Warner while QBing. This is true for other positions too. The game itself is extremely customizable, allowing for you to mould it to the way you feel comfortable. The Franchise and Online modes will keep you playing this gem for hours on end. The only drawback is that it is this is not a friendly game for new players and people new to football. The learning curve is a little steep.

GRAPHICS::
WOW! This game blows any sports game on the PC, and the graphics are a major improvement over 2001. Even on my lower end PC, the game looked amazing. But I found I had to turn the settings down from what the game recommended to get steady frame rates to make the game playable. And the animations for tackles were great too, they actually seemed realistic. Finally, instant replays after the play were even better than the gameplay graphics, and is a major plus.

AUDIO:
The menu music is limited, but the option to include your own MP3’s for in-game is a major bonus. The sound effects made by the players are great too, when a guy gets hit hard, you hear it :) I would have liked for the crowd to be a little more realistic, but it is no worse than any other game. The commentary often gets annoying and repetitive, and is one other downfall in this category.

OVERALL:
When EA decides to launch a new title in their famous sports series, people wonder if it is worth for them to upgrade. Will they be getting a new, improved game, or the same game as last years with new rosters and tweaked graphics? Well, with Madden 2002, there is a reason to upgrade. The AI is much improved, to make games more enjoyable. You’ll be able to show off your new system to all of your friends by playing this game on high details :). And an extremely customizable Franchise mode, along with Online play, will keep you playing this game for a long time to come.
